Have you ever heard of people getting headaches from perfume? The same happens with an unhealthy chemical fragrance reaction. So next time you want to mask an odor, which more than likely is organic (food cooking or decomposing, someone's sweaty feet and other odors caused by bodily functions) think about healthy ways of dealing with the odor. Decomposing food odors dissipate quickly when you take the offenders out to the trash and a good breath of fresh air from an open window does wonders for cooking odors you find offensive. While odors caused by bodily functions may appear more tricky they really are not. The exhaust fan helps and so does having a dish of baking soda on a shelf away from young children of course. And you could keep a nice spray bottle of the following formula on hand when you just do not want to wait for the odor to dissipate:

1 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in 2 cups of hot water. Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Pour the mixture into a spritzer, a spray bottle that produces a fine mist. Shake before using. When you spray the mixture into the air, the baking soda will neutralize the odors, while the lemon juice will leave behind a nice, clean scent. Fresh, natural, inexpensive -be sure to use a clean bottle and sprayer so you do not create a chemical reaction between this formula and chemicals from a used sprayer.
